Following on from the two weeks spent on the training pitch at Coverciano, the Women’s National Team are set to continue preparing for the FIFA World Cup (which will take place in France from 7 June to 7 July) in Riscone, Brunico. For the third phase of the team’s preparations, Head Coach Milena Bertolini has called up 26 players. They will get together this evening and complete their first training session tomorrow.
At 15:00 CEST on Wednesday 29 May, Italy will take on Switzerland at the Stadio Paolo Mazza in Ferrara. This will be their last friendly before they depart for France on Sunday 2 June. The match in Ferrara will be the third time the Azzurre have played in the city following a 4-0 European qualifying win against Bosnia in March 2012 and a 2-1 victory over Belgium (with goals from Rosucci and Girelli) on 10 April 2018 during the qualifying campaign for this year’s World Cup. Switzerland, who are ranked 18th in the FIFA rankings, and Italy have met each other 26 times, with the Azzurre’s record against the Swiss reading as follows: 20 wins, two draws, four defeats. Their last win came in February 2018, when they emerged 3-0 victors in the Cyprus Cup.
