Despite a positive win in Athens, the Head Coach still wants more from his team: “We did well not to concede but we can do more”Saturday, June 8, 2019
Speaking after Italy’s 3-0 win over Greece on Saturday, Roberto Mancini was pleased but determined: “We’re starting to improve,” said the Azzurri Head Coach. “We did well to control the game like that. We could have pushed a bit more, we managed the lead too much. We did well not to concede but we can do more.”
As for his decision to start Lorenzo Insigne: “He was brilliant in the week and proved it today. We're ahead of schedule with our project but there's still a lot of work to do."
Lastly, the Head Coach also passed his congratulations onto the Under-20 side following their progression to the World Cup semi-finals, while also wishing the best of luck to Milena Bertolini’s Azzurre ahead of the World Cup debut against Australia.
As for one of Italy’s key players against Greece, Lorenzo Insigne had this to say after scoring his fifth goal for the Azzurri: “Scoring in this shirt is something special. It's just what I needed. We must now regain our strength, another battle awaits us on Tuesday. This is a great squad with lots of intensity. Mancini is helping us a lot. He has knowledge and experience, his contribution is key."
