The Futsal Women’s National Team was officially founded in January 2015. The Men’s Coach Roberto Menichelli was named Coach. The team first appeared on 25 June 2015 at the Foro Italico in Rome, beating Hungary 5-0. Two days later, the Azzurre repeated the feat by beating the Hungarians 4-0 at the PalaRoma di Montesilvano.

Francesca Salvatore became the Coach and UEFA announced the first European Championship as part of their aim to further promote the women’s game.

Following friendlies against Iran and Ukraine, Italy were placed alongside the hosts Spain, Poland and Romania for the Final Four in Leganes. Italy finished second but failed to qualify for the competition in Gondomar, Portugal.
