The Football Museum can be found inside of the National Technical Centre at Coverciano and it tells the story of the past and present of the Italian National Team.

A visit to the Football Museum allows for a unique experience where one can experience strong emotions relating to the Italy team. That’s not all. There are scarves, balls, pieces of memorabilia, trophies, pennants and historic shirts which are all treasured by the museum as it tells a story that transcends the field of play. It’s also the history of Italy. It goes from the birth of the FIGC on 15th March 1898, to the success of the Azzurri in the 1930s when there were black shirts and World Cup trophies. There was the tragedy of Superga and historic defeat at the 1966 World Cup in England to North Korea. There was then rebirth two years later with success at the 1968 European Championship and the unforgettable memories of the two most recent World Cup triumphs in 1982 and 2006 as Italy lifted the cup. They’re remembered through Bearzot’s pipe and Cannavaro’s shirt. 

It’s not all about the Azzurri. In the museum, you can also see shirts and memorabilia related to great figures from the world’s favourite sport, from Di Stefano and Pelé to Maradona. Players whose legends entered the popular memory and whose stories are intertwined with those of Italy. 

The Italian Football Hall of Fame is also inside the museum. It’s a space dedicated to items linked to the greatest legends of the Italian game who have been nominated by the FIGC since 2011 to become members of this special club. 

The Football Museum also represents the cultural value of sport and for this reason, it also supports educational programmes to share and promote the values of football, especially to young people.  

That means teaching in the classroom and on the pitches of the FIGC’s Technical Centre at Coverciano thanks to the ‘Play at Coverciano’ project. This project is for schools and youth football clubs and it is made up of two hours of play and fun under the watch of Federation coaches. It’s open to all regardless of ability as the aim is to make the values of team play clear through playing football on the pitch.
