The exhibition at the Museo del Calcio has two new items of great historical value. One is the ball used in the second half of Italy vs. England on 11 May 1948 and the other is a part of an instrument from the FIAT G.212 aircraft that crashed into the Basilica at Superga when carrying the Grande Torino side on 4 May 1949.

The Italy vs. England ball: The football comes from a match organised by the Federation who invited the ‘English masters’ to a fixture celebrating 50 years since the foundation of the FIGC. “Italia Inghilterra 2° tempo” is written on the ball and it those times, there would be a ball for each half for publicity reasons.

At the Stadio Comunale in Turin, England won 4-0 in front of around 50,000 fans. Mortensen opened the scoring early on with what would be known as a "gol alla Mortensen.” The goal was a cross-cum-shot from a tight angle which caught out the Italy goalkeeper Bacigalupo at his near post. Following Mortensen's opener, England would extend the lead through Lawton and a Finney brace.

In May 1948, Italy mostly consisted of Grande Torino players with seven of those who featured against England coming from that glorious Granata side.

The connector. The second item is an aircraft connector from the plane that was heading back to Turin following the Granata’s friendly against Benfica in Lisbon. The plan would however never reach its destination as the story of the Grande Torino would forever become linked by the tragedy of the crash at Superga.
