UEFA provides €236.5 million to help its 55 member associations
The funding is part of the HatTrick Programme. President Ceferin: “Football is facing an unprecedented challenge, I’m proud of the unity it’s shown”Monday, April 27, 2020
UEFA have decided to provide €236.5 million to help its 55 member associations meet the challenges presented by Covid-19 in their respective countries. This funding is part of the HatTrick Programme, created in 2004 with the aim of bringing €2.6 billion worth of resources to the Federations by 2024.
These funds are usually provided to cover running costs and to help specific, targeted areas of national football. However, UEFA has decided to allow each Federation to establish its own priorities in light of the negative impact Coronavirus has had on various levels of football.
While announcing the measure, President Aleksander Ceferin said: “Our sport is facing an unprecedented challenge as a result of the Covid-19 crisis. UEFA want to help its members respond appropriately to their specific circumstances. Consequently, we’ve agreed that up to €4.3 million can be used per association, which will be paid over the rest of this season and the following one, and each member can use it as deemed appropriate to rebuild their football community. I believe that it’s a responsible decision to help as much as possible. I’m proud of the unity that football is showing during this crisis, and undoubtedly it’ll be central to life returning to normal. When that moment comes, football must be ready to answer the call.”
