New-look FIGC HQ with record-breaking Azzurri and the #RagazzeMondiali
The FIGC headquarters celebrates the stars and achievements of the various Italy National TeamsMonday, December 23, 2019
The FIGC headquarters has changed its look. The new modern yet traditional imagery focuses on the most important moments from the history of Italian football, starting from the most recent ones and eleven consecutive wins for Roberto Mancini’s side and Milena Bertolini’s efforts to make the quarter-finals of the Women’s World Cup last year. It celebrates the stars of the present but always with a view to the future and EURO 2020 which will kick off and the women’s tournament in 2021 with crucial qualifiers coming up.
Ahead of these matches, the FIGC’s building alongside the Villa Borghese in one of the most attractive parts of Rome has strengthened its brand imagery around the Azzurri shirt and all it represents. “Football and Italian passion in particular represents cohesion and an extraordinary national passion,” said the FIGC President Gabriele Gravina. “Up to the present day, it has been a symbol of our identity, inside but outside the Federation above all as it tells the story of a glorious past while we look to the future with enthusiasm.”
The works have been unveiled at the end of 2019 which has been a very significant year for the 19 Italy teams. Roberto Mancini’s side qualified for EURO 2020 with three matches to spare and broke records for consecutive wins with eleven wins overall, ten straight wins in qualification and ten wins in a calendar year. The Women’s National Team returned to play at a World Cup for the first time in 20 years and made it to the quarter-finals and gave a real boost for Italian women’s football. In youth football, the Under-20s qualified for the World Cup in Poland and only went out in the semi-final to the hosts. The Under-17s lost a European Championship final against the Netherlands and qualified for the World Cup in Brazil where they finished fourth after losing to the home side. The Beach Soccer side finished as runners-up at the World Cup in Paraguay, losing in the final to Portugal.
The new decorations to the FIGC HQ are on both the inside and outside of the building. The action shots feature 14 players with 14 from Roberto Mancini’s side and twelve from the Women’s National Team on the sides of the building (the installation work on the latter has been delayed due to bad weather in Rome). The front of the building is simply coloured blue.
The lobby of the Federal Council features a collage with the 100 players who’ve made the most Italy appearances. Furthermore, there are selected images from some of the most iconic Italy matches. The big between Gigi Riva and Gianni Rivera in the semi-final against West Germany at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, Marco Tardelli’s goal celebration against West Germany at the 1982 World Cup in Spain, a group hug following aa Roberto Baggio goal at USA 1994, Marco Materazzi’s equaliser in the 2006 World Cup final in Berlin against Germany, Francesco Toldo hugging his teammates after the shootout win at EURO 2002 over the Netherlands and Cristiana Girelli’s at the 2019 Women’s World Cup.
A new look to bring 2019 to a close and start 2020 with the aim to keep generating enthusiasm through the exploits of the Italian National Teams.
