Leonardo Bonucci was born in Viterbo on 1 May 1987, and he grew up in their youth academy before taking the first important step of his career in 2005, when he moved to Inter’s youth sector. It was with the Nerazzurri that he made his Serie A debut on 14 May 2006, coming on for the final minutes of Cagliari vs. Inter. Between 2007 and 2010 he played for Treviso, Pisa, Genoa and Bari, before joining Juventus. He was a key part of the Bianconeri’s success under the leadership of Antonio Conte and Massimiliano Allegri, winning five Scudetto titles, two Coppa Italia and three Italian Super Cups.

In the summer of 2018, Bonucci moved to AC Milan, where he became captain. Then, the following year, he returned to Juventus and won another Scudetto and Italian Super Cup.

His journey with the Azzurri began on 3 March 2010, in a friendly between Italy and Cameroon. Three months later, on 3 June, he scored his first goal for the National team, although sadly it didn’t prevent the Azzurri from losing in a friendly against Mexico (2-1). “Leo” was called up by Lippi for the 2010 World Cup, but he didn’t make an appearance. It was under Prandelli and then Conte that he became a pivotal part of the side, with whom he played in the 2012 and 2016 European Championships, as well as the 2014 World Cup and 2013 Confederations Cup.

Bonucci, who in recent matches has worn the captain’s armband due to Chiellini’s injury, has so far played 95 matches for Italy and scored seven goals.
