“Beppe” Dossena, born in Milan on 2 May 1958, turns 62 today. His career as a midfield playmaker saw him represent seven clubs between 1976 and 1992. His longest spell was with the Granata, spending seven seasons at Torino, but the majority of his success came with Sampdoria. In his time with the Blucerchiati, he won the Coppa Italia in 1989, a UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1990, and the Scudetto and Italian Super Cup in 1991.
His Azzurri debut came on 19 April 1981 in a friendly against East Germany in Udine. Just one year later he was part of that world-conquering group led by Enzo Bearzot in Spain, although he didn’t make any appearances in the tournament. His 38th and final appearance for the National Team came on 10 June 1987, as Italy triumphed 3-1 over Argentina in a friendly in Zurich.
